Carolinian to lead Indiana Conference communication ministry

INDIANAPOLIS – The Rev. Dr. Cindy Reynolds, executive assistant to Bishop Mike Coyner, announces the employment of Skyler E. Nimmons of Columbia, S.C. as the next Indiana Conference Communication Director effective Sept. 1.

Nimmons, 30, an active layperson in the South Carolina Conference and native of Orangeburg, S.C., will succeed the retiring Rev. Dr. Daniel R. Gangler, 67, who has worked for Indiana Conference and Area communication as its director and editor of The Hoosier United Methodists Together conference print publication since February 2003.

Nimmons has a diverse background in public relations, marketing, and communications in the areas of non-profits and small-to-medium-sized businesses. In 2011, he joined the staff of the Western North Carolina Conference as the Conference Communications Specialist. There he served as a strategist and manager of communications and informational technology as well as directed public relations and crisis management for more than 1,100 churches and 800 clergy. His work in Western North Carolina has been recognized nationally by the United Methodist Association of Communicators for web design, print publication, branding and video production.

He studied journalism with a major in public relations at the University of South Carolina.

He says he enjoys travel, live music, cooking, reading, connecting with new people and often never meets a stranger.

Upon the announcement of his employment, Reynolds said, “We welcome Skyler to the Indiana Conference as our new Communication Director. As a young adult professional communicator, he brings skills in web, electronic and social media that will be useful as our communication ministry continues to expand in electronic online media. He also brings experience in The United Methodist Church having worked with the denomination’s Western North Carolina Conference. He was selected by a search committee which considered 19 applicants from Indiana and across the United States.”
